Performances, Workshops, and More!
Wed, Aug 16: Zill to Kill with Mahira
$35.00. Pre-registration is encouraged.
Mahira will teach you the basics and beyond of playing finger cymbals and dancing while playing them. You will learn how to strike them correctly, learn to make different sounds with them, patterns/rhythms and more. Playing zills can be fun and is a wonderful way to accentuate your dancing. Mahira is known for her fast, crisp A Capella finger cymbal solos. She hopes to bring back the thrill of zills back to bellydance. This workshop is for all levels.
Fri, Aug 18: Intention: It's in the Arms! workshop with Christina
$35.00. Pre-registration is encouraged
It's time to stop thinking about arm & hand movements as "icing on the cake" of our belly dance. So much of what we communicate as dancers is held in our arms and hands and how we create movements, transitions, and moods through them. This workshop will not only focus on arm/hand movement technique but also on getting your arms and hands to convey the intention of your dance, communicate with your audience and claim your story. All levels are welcome.
Sunday, August 27, 2017
$35. Space is limited. Pre-registration is encouraged
The Dancer’s Playlist is a workshop series devoted to help dancer’s expand their knowledge of popular songs used by bellydancers. Each workshop will feature a short lecture regarding the song’s meaning and history. We then will explore three different versions of the song through movement to help retain the feel of the song in our bodies. The idea is not to offer a choreography, but instead combinations and isolations to inspire you in how you would interpret the song. This workshop series is open to all dancers but recommended to those of intermediate and above level. Pre-registration is recommended so that I can send you a link to hear the three versions of the song we will be using for that particular workshop.
The song for this workshop is "Misirlou."

As belly dance took hold in the California counter-culture movement of the 60's and 70's there was a hearkening back to the dances of the people of the Arab world mixed with the hippie vibe, creating a decidedly American street fair version of the dance. La Groove Fatale invokes this era of belly dance using the music of Turku, whose drummer, Daveed Korup, will be joining the performances.
