sunday, may 26: Spring Shenanigans!
Our quarterly in-house workshop weekend will get your head in the game for spring events and shows with two great workshops by our instructors. Each of these workshops has a class size minimum of 5 and a limit of 12 students. Workshops are $35 each or take both workshops and save $5! Register below.
12:30--2:30pm: Hands-on Dance Bra Sew-a-thon with Christina King
One of the hardest pieces of the belly dance costume to perfect is the dance bra. Between issues of fit, support, and turning a piece of lingerie into a costume item fit for the stage is no easy task, but you can learn some very simple tricks to make it all easier. Please bring with you an undecorated or in-process bra with molded cups that fits you well, 2-3 yards of grosgrain or satin ribbon in the color of your choice, any fabrics, laces, ribbons, coins, stones, or other bits and bobs that you want to use to decorate your bra, and a basic sewing kit including scissors, thread, needles, a seam ripper, and a measuring tape. There will be some materials on hand for you to use as well.
3:00-5:00pm: Yoga Foundations for Tribal Fusion Phrases and Combinations with Absinthe du Ventre
In this integrated yoga and belly dance workshop, we will begin on the mat with a carefully sequenced yoga practice designed to help you feel great and access new levels of ease and grace in your dance movements. We will then work our tribal fusion belly dance technique through a series of dance phrases, each a unique little component of a larger whole. These phrases will then be strung together to form a short combination that can be used in whole or in part to refine technique in home practice or to add new flavor to choreography, improvisation or performance. We will finish on the mat with a shorter yoga sequence to help counterbalance our work and leave us feeling relaxed and open. This workshop is suitable for most levels; some familiarity with belly dance movement and isolations will be helpful. Please bring a yoga mat, a water bottle, perhaps a notebook, and a willingness to break a sweat and have fun.

Sunday, June 16: exploring Yin Yoga and mindfulness meditation
2:00-4:30pm
$45 in advance or $40 each when you bring a friend!
$50 at the door.
Yin Yoga is a contemplative practice that allows us to drop in and listen to our inner stillness.
Explore the quieter side of yoga and discover why less is more.
Yin yoga is not a different style of yoga but is a different way to BE your yoga.
Learn the basic principles of Yin yoga and discover how it is a complement to active yoga practices as well as to our busy lives.
● Yin yoga keeps the body supple while encouraging stagnant chi (prana/life force) to flow throughout the joints, balancing the organ and meridian systems for our general health.
● With its deeply nourishing asanas that are held for 3-5 minutes (no standing poses), yin yoga encourages a greater capacity for mindful awareness, helps you realize a deeper sense of peacefulness, and leaves you with a sense of heightened energy throughout the entire body.
● Because it targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine, Yin yoga is recommended for people who are chronically “stiff”, for athletes, and for anyone who wants to alleviate tight hips and low back pain.
● Class will end with mindfulness meditation. (Yoga Alliance CEUs available for yoga teachers.)
